Our Conservation Mission
The Lake County Conservation Districts mission is to help residents achieve their conservation goals.
What are conservation districts?
Conservation districts are local organizations that help people care for the land and protect natural resources. They were first created in the 1930s after the Dust Bowl, a time when the land was badly damaged by wind and erosion, showing how important it is to take care of our environment.
In South Dakota, conservation districts work with local farmers, ranchers, and communities to provide advice, tools, and support. Whether it’s planting trees, improving soil health, or protecting water sources, districts help people use the land in ways that keep it healthy for future generations.
Conservation districts work closely with state and national agencies to bring resources and programs to local communities, making sure everyone can benefit from better land management and conservation practices.
